Japanese tech companies NTT Docomo Business Inc. and IBM Japan Ltd. on Wednesday announced they will collaborate to develop a system for monitoring whether AI agents are complying with laws and company rules.
AI agents can complete tasks autonomously. The system will mainly target large enterprises that use AI agents to handle highly confidential data. The two companies plan to start the service by the end of March 2027.
The companies will combine their technologies and customer bases to develop and operate the system. NTT Docomo Business has advanced technology for user authentication and securely managing confidential data, and also has business relationships with a wide range of companies in Japan. IBM Japan has a competitive edge in developing software that manages AI.
It was recently revealed that an AI agent developed by OpenAI went rogue and hacked into an Australian government website. NTT Docomo Business stressed the importance of properly managing AI agents, saying, "The time is approaching when the number of AI agents will outnumber human employees by a factor of 10 to 100."
