Seaport Therapeutics' (SPTX) GlyphAgo showed a "statistically significant" 6.8-fold increase in bioavailability of the antidepressant agomelatine compared with unmodified agomelatine in a 174-patient phase 1 clinical trial, the company said Friday.
GlyphAgo, designed to enhance lymphatic absorption of agomelatine, also achieved "therapeutically relevant" exposure of agomelatine at substantially lower doses meant to reduce liver damage, the company said.
The drug also potentially reduces the risk of liver damage and the need for routine liver monitoring that has curtailed agomelatine's use to treat severe depression.
