Microsoft (MSFT) and Adobe's (ADBE) green-card programs were suspended by the US government over accusations they have abused a program to grant jobs to qualified foreign nationals, news outlets reported Thursday.
The H-1B visa program, which allows companies to hire skilled workers from abroad, has come under fire by US conservatives. They accuse companies of hiring foreign workers to undercut salaries, the reports said.
"For years, the H-1B visa program has been manipulated by fraudsters and it's been allowed to run rampant," Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling said in a post on social media. "THAT ENDS NOW! we are FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGING the H-1B visa program to ensure we're prioritizing AMERICAN WORKERS FIRST instead of foreign fraudsters."
Other companies targeted include Cognizant (CTSH), Infosys (INFY), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Wipro (WIPR), Reuters reported.
Microsoft and Adobe did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
