French Government Bond Yields Rise on Fiscal Worries, Treasury Yields Fall

Dow Jones
Oct 05

0706 GMT - French government bond yields start the day higher, albeit below Friday's multiyear highs, due to concerns about France's fiscal situation, risks that parliament might not agree on the government's budget, and a looming election next year. French 10-year government bond yields rise 3.9 basis points to 4.897%, having hit a peak of 4.993% on Friday, Tradeweb data show. By contrast, 10-year Bund yields fall 3.8 basis points to 3.419% as investors seek the safety of German bonds. The French-German 10-year bond spread stands at 146.30, having spiked on Friday to as wide as 158.67. Treasury yields edge lower after Friday's weaker-than-expected jobs data, although Treasurys underperform Bunds. The 10-year Treasury yield falls 1.9 basis points to 5.257%.
