US equity futures were edging lower pre-bell Thursday as oil prices rose after President Donald Trump said he does not want to make a deal with Iran to end the war.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were 0.9% lower, S&P 500 futures were down 0.5%, and Nasdaq futures were 0.8% lower.
Trump said late Wednesday at a campaign rally in Texas that Iran was "willing to offer us anything to stop," CNBC reported. He reportedly added that US special envoy Steve Witkoff was continuing to work on a deal with the Middle Eastern country.
The White House is weighing potential military action against Iran ahead of the US midterm elections in November, The Atlantic reported late Wednesday, citing two administration officials.
Traders digested the latest round of earnings, with PepsiCo (PEP) posting higher fiscal Q3 core net income and revenue.
Oil prices were higher, with front-month global benchmark North Sea Brent crude up 4.5% at $104.70 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude 4.6% higher at $92.33 per barrel.
The weekly jobless claims bulletin is expected to show 200,000 new unemployment claims for the week ended Oct. 3, up from 197,000 in the prior week, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller, Minneapolis President Neel Kashkari and St. Louis President Alberto Musalem are the Fed speakers for Thursday.
