Bath & Body Works raised its full-year earnings outlook after logging higher profit in the second quarter.

The soaps and fragrances retailer said Wednesday it now expects annual adjusted earnings per share to be $2.60 to $2.80, up from prior guidance of $2.40 and $2.65.

It also narrowed its sales guidance to a decline of 4.5% to 2.5%, from the 4% to 2.5% decline it had previously projected.

Bath & Body Works posted a profit of $118 million, or 58 cents a share, compared with $64 million, or 30 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were 62 cents, ahead of the 24 cents anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet.

Revenue fell 2.3% to $1.51 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast revenue of $1.50 billion.

Underlying business trends remained under pressure, but management is seeing evidence that elements of its turnaround strategy are starting to work, Chief Executive Daniel Heaf said.

For the third quarter, the company is forecasting a 5% to 2.5% sales decline and adjusted earnings per share of 7 cents to 12 cents.
