Meta Platforms to Post $10 Billion 3Q Charge on Lawsuit Settlement

Meta Platforms will post a third-quarter charge of about $10 billion related to its settlement over a lawsuit alleging the company's social-media platforms harmed children.
Meta on Wednesday said the legal expense wasn't contemplated in the full-year total expenses guidance of $165 billion to $169 billion that the Menlo Park, Calif., company gave in late July when it reported second-quarter earnings.
Meta said the other guidance it provided for the year, which included operating income surpassing 2025 levels and capital spending in the range of $130 billion to $145 billion, is unchanged.
The company had previously warned that legal and regulatory matters could significantly impact its business and financial results.
