BHP Group (ASX:BHP) said its BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) joint venture now has 100% of its forecasted electricity demand matched through renewable power purchase agreements, becoming the first operation in the company's Australian portfolio to reach the milestone, according to a Wednesday statement.
BMA's electricity demand is backed by renewable energy sources including wind, solar, and pumped hydro through a recent power purchase agreement with Queensland energy generator and retailer CleanCo.
The milestone supports BHP's broader target to reduce operational scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30% by fiscal 2030 from fiscal 2020 levels. The company also has a long-term target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
