American Airlines is the latest carrier to expand its overseas route network, with plans to add Vienna, Reykjavik, Iceland and Porto, Portugal to its map for summer vacations next year.
Airlines are trying to keep a boom in overseas travel going and satisfy travelers' desire to get to new destinations. American's announcement comes on the heels of rival United's own slate of new overseas destinations.
American will be the only U.S. carrier flying to Vienna when its flights from Philadelphia start in May, and the service will be available into early January of 2028 for travelers visiting European Christmas markets. The new route from Philadelphia to Reykjavik is a return to Iceland, which American last flew to in 2019.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline is also adding flights from New York's JFK Airport to Amsterdam and Nice, France, and from Charlotte, N.C., to Barcelona.
