The U.S. Army said it will work with FedEx Dataworks on efforts to modernize its non-tactical logistics networks, supply chain procedures and Organic Industrial Base sites.

Military personnel will collaborate with a FedEx Dataworks-led team of logistics and technology experts under the Army's Strategic Capital Initiative. Through the program, FedEx will use its expertise in large-scale orchestration to help optimize stock levels and demand forecasting, the Army added.

Dave Fitzgerald, deputy undersecretary of the Army, said the imitative is part of the service's plans to transition from a dated supply system to a predictive, intelligent network.

The Army also said integrating automation and technology into its sustainment enterprise is a direct investment in the civilian and military workforce.

An implementation plan for U.S. based sites is expected to be finalized by November.
