Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva urged US President Donald Trump to resolve their countries' trade dispute during a phone call Friday, saying the tariffs were imposed on "baseless" grounds, AFP reported Friday.
Lula said the tariffs negatively affect both countries and that remaining at the negotiating table was the best option, AFP said. The Brazilian presidency said the call lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes and took place in a "friendly and cordial tone."
The tariffs have become a key issue ahead of Brazil's October presidential election, AFP said.
