IMAX (IMAX) said Monday it generated $47 million in worldwide box office receipts over the weekend, driven by the $13 million opening weekend of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey in China.
The company said the film had the biggest IMAX debut and highest market share for a Christopher Nolan film in China.
The weekend lifted The Odyssey's worldwide IMAX gross to $346.4 million, making it the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time, the company said.
IMAX said its screens accounted for 26% of the film's global box office to date.
The company's global weekend was also supported by Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which generated $4.8 million in North America and select international markets, bringing its IMAX total to $53 million, it added.
