Target Leaning on AI to Attract and Retain Shoppers

09:45 ET--Target continues to modernize its technology, investing in new capabilities that allow the retailer to personalize experiences across its stores and digital channels, CEO Michael Fiddelke says on a call with analysts Wednesday. The new technology also is helping merchants identify and respond to emerging trends faster than ever before, he adds. The comments come after Target earlier this year partnered with platforms including OpenAI and Google, as well as appointed a chief AI officer to oversee the technology's implementation. "While still small in total today, as more consumers begin to explore the benefits of agentic shopping, Target's digital traffic sourced from external AI platforms is growing more than three-and-a-half times the industry, as compared to a year ago," Fiddelke says.
