Euro Credit Default Protection Costs Stay Steady

Dow Jones

0901 GMT - The cost of euro credit default protection is steady as markets digest the U.S. announcement about doubling the size of long-dated Treasury buybacks operation starting on September 9. The announcement boosted market sentiment, although analysts say this could be a shortlived remedy. The move doesn't solve the U.S. fiscal or inflation concerns which contributed to the rise in long-dated sovereign bond yields, "but it does change the near-term market tone," Tickmill Group's Patrick Munnelly says in a note. The iTraxx Europe Main index of euro investment-grade credit default swaps is unchanged at 52 basis points, S&P Global Market Intelligence data show.
