0908 GMT - HSBC upgrades Malaysia's 2026 GDP growth assumption to 5.2% from 4.5% expected previously, after stronger-than-expected 2Q growth. Malaysia is benefiting from its position as one of Asia's three net energy exporters and the artificial-intelligence boom, with electronics exports gaining 60% on year on a three-month moving average basis, economist Yun Liu and Madhurima Nag say in a note. Malaysia is likely to be Asean's second-fastest-growing economy for a second consecutive year, they say. Given the economic strength and subdued inflation, HSBC doesn't expect Bank Negara to rush into rate hikes and maintains its view that the central bank will keep its policy rate steady at 2.75% through 2026 and 2027.
