Target Focuses on Several Key Categories to Drive Growth

Dow Jones

1048 ET - Target is placing disproportionate investments in key areas that it believes have outsized importance, Chief Merchandising Officer Cara Sylvester says on an analyst call. These areas include beauty, health and wellness, food, baby and kid, women's style, home, and building culture driven categories including toys and entertainment, Sylvester says. Together the categories represent about half of Target's total sales. "We believe they will contribute even more to our growth going forward," Sylvester says, noting that growth has disproportionately stemmed from the areas in which the company has taken some of its biggest chances. "We're still early in this journey, but what we're seeing gives us confidence," she adds.
