Citigroup (C) said Friday its Tokyo Branch participated as a lender and agent in a syndicated loan of about $4.6 billion to US entities set up and funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.

The financing is for two US investment companies set up by JBIC to back investments in natural gas-fired power generation projects in Pennsylvania and Texas, the company said.

The part of the loan provided by private-sector banks is covered by insurance from Nippon Export and Investment Insurance, the company said.
