Market Chatter: Japan's Government to Support Near-Term Rate Hike by the Bank of Japan

Japan's government is supportive of a near-term interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan, which could strengthen the yen and align with the recent US-Japan currency intervention efforts, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The Japanese prime minister's office said monetary policy measures, including rate hikes, which are expected in September or October, should be left to the BOJ.

The government has shown its willingness to work closely with the central bank to achieve the 2% inflation target steadily.

The Japanese prime minister's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
