Shares of banks and other financial institutions fell amid volatility in bond and foreign-exchange markets.

Marubeni, one of Japan's largest trading houses, said it favored a stronger yen to assist it with overseas acquisitions. The yen has started to creep up again against the dollar and other currencies despite a coordinated intervention.

JPMorgan Chase ended its banking relationship with prediction market Polymarket last October over regulatory concerns.

Citigroup agreed to buy Kard Financial, a start-up that works with financial firms to offer their customers rewards as the global banking giant seeks to increase its base of affluent U.S. credit-card holders.
