NeOnc Technologies said its recent study of a brain tumor treatment met its primary endpoint.

Nearly 49% of patients with recurrent or progressive IDH1-mutant glioma brain tumors had six-month progression-free survival during the study, the biopharmaceutical company said Wednesday.

That compared with a 20% benchmark rate set before the trial began.

The treatment, known as NEO100, was administered through the nose by patients at home, with no major toxicities reported. Administering the treatment through the nose allows it to pass through the blood-brain barrier, which has been a challenge in treating brain cancer.

Median overall survival was 26 months, with 12 deaths among the 24 patients. Overall survival was 87% at six months, 61% at 12 months and 54% at 24 months. Of the original 24 patients, five remain in active treatment.

NeOnc's next priority is to engage with the Food and Drug Administration and align on the best path toward a registrational study, Chief Executive Amir Heshmatpour said. The company plans to request a Type B meeting with the agency.

Shares were up 12% to $4.89 in premarket trading.
