Performance Food logged higher sales and profit in the fiscal fourth quarter, as both costs and prices increased.
The food service and convenience-food company on Wednesday posted a profit of $162.3 million, or $1.03 a share, compared with $131.5 million, or 84 cents a share, a year earlier.
Stripping out certain one-time items, adjusted per-share earnings were $1.59, behind the $1.60 anticipated by analysts, according to FactSet.
Revenue rose 6.4% to $18.03 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast revenue of $18.11 billion.
The sales growth was driven by an increase in its selling price per case as a result of inflation, as cost inflation rose 4.7%, Performance Food said.
Sales in its food service business, which supplies restaurants, rose 6.8%, while convenience revenue was up 5.7%. Higher prices in convenience were partially offset by more customers buying alternative nicotine products instead of cigarettes.
For the new fiscal year, Performance Food expects sales to be $72.5 billion to $73 billion, compared with the $72.78 billion that analysts are projecting.
The company is guiding for $17.9 billion to $18.1 billion in revenue during the current fiscal first quarter, while analysts are forecasting $18.04 billion.
