Lindian Resources (ASX:LIN) issued a clarification on "inaccurate and misleading media articles," saying that the mining license for its Kangankunde rare earths project in Malawi remains valid and in good standing, according to a Monday filing with the Australian bourse.

Lindian unit Rift Valley Resource Developments remains the lawful holder of the license, and Kangankunde is operating "well within statutory thresholds" under the project's final investment decision, the company said.

It added that Malawi's minister of mining recently confirmed in the country's national assembly that government inspections found no evidence of unauthorized extraction or illegal mining at Kangankunde.

The company remains focused on delivering the project to first production in the fourth quarter.

Lindian Resources shares gained 15% in recent Monday trade.
