1312 ET - The number of homes going under contract fell 3.7% week-over-week nationwide, Redfin says. That's the steepest decline since 2022, as would-be buyers pressed pause amid high mortgage rates. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is averaging 6.69% according to Freddie Mac versus 6.63% a year ago at this time. Mortgage-purchase applications were down 4% from a week earlier, as of the week ending July 29, Redfin says. Google searches of "homes for sale" were down about 3% from a month earlier, as of August 2nd, according to Redfin. For the four weeks ending Aug. 2, the median sale price was $406,362, 2.9% higher than last year. The median asking price was $398,666, 1.1% higher. Pending sales were 1.9% lower than a year ago, at 311,150, the lowest level in more than five months, Redfin says.
