The United Arab Emirates sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment is eyeing an investment in a new data center coming up in Japan's northern city of Akita, Nikkei Asia reported Friday.

The data center, scheduled to commence operations in the early 2030s and with a maximum capacity of 500 megawatts, is expected to cost about 2 trillion yen, the report said.

U.S. AI startup Bitgrit and the Akita-based technology firm S2 are leading the project, it said.

Mubadala Investment did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for a comment.
