Beyond Meat logged lower sales in its latest quarter, weighed down by weak demand in its U.S. retail and foodservice channels.

The plant-based-protein company posted a second-quarter profit of $16.4 million, compared with a loss of $31.8 million a year ago. On a per share basis, the company had a loss of 6 cents compared with a loss of 42 cents a year ago.

Adjusted loss per share was 9 cents. Analysts polled by FactSet forecast an adjusted loss of 8 cents a share.

Revenue slid 8.2%, to $68.8 million, compared with analyst estimates of $62.4 million.

The company attributed the decline to lower sales of burger and chicken products to quick-service-restaurant customers internationally, as well as weak demand and reduced points of distribution in its U.S. foodservice and retail channels.

Chief Executive Ethan Brown said the company continues to work on stabilizing its business.

For the third quarter, the El Segundo, Calif., company forecast revenue of $60 million to $65 million. Analysts expect revenue of $62.1 million.
