Mondelez International boosted its outlook after reporting higher sales in the second quarter, driven by strength in the Latin America market.

The owner of food brands including Oreo and Cadbury said it now expects at least 2% growth in organic net revenue, up from a previous outlook of organic net revenue growth between flat and 2%.

The company's boosted outlook "reflects the strength of its year-to-date performance," Mondelez said.

The company on Tuesday reported a profit of $1.55 billion, or $1.20 a share. That compares with a profit of $641 million, or 49 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, the company reported adjusted earnings of 73 cents a share, ahead of the 68 cents a share expected by analysts polled by FactSet.

Revenue rose to $9.36 billion from $8.98 billion a year prior. Analysts had been expecting $9.21 billion in revenue. Part of the revenue growth was driven by higher net pricing, the company said.

In Latin America, revenue climbed 15% to $1.37 billion. Revenue grew 8.2% in the Asia, Middle East & Africa region and 3% in North America.

Revenue from Europe fell 1% during the second quarter.

"We delivered continued strength across our Emerging Markets, as well as strong growth and elevated execution in our North America business," Chief Executive Officer Dirk Van de Put said. "In Europe, share dynamics are showing early positive trends, and we believe the business is well-positioned to build on that progress."

In addition to the lifted outlook, Mondelez reaffirmed its full-year outlook for free cash flow of around $3 billion and adjusted earnings per share growth in a range of flat to up 5% on a constant currency basis.

Shares in Mondelez were up 2.8% to $64.20 in after-hours trading on Tuesday.
