Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has fallen to "crisis-era lows" as a brief pause in fighting was shattered by fresh clashes in the Middle East, PA Media reported Wednesday, citing UK-based maritime data firm Lloyd's List Intelligence.

The firm said the worsening security situation makes a near-term recovery in traffic through the strategic waterway unlikely, the report said.

Lloyd's List Intelligence recorded just 39 vessel transits from July 20-26, down from 82 the prior week and a fraction of pre-war levels of nearly 140 ships a day, according to the report.

"Neither Tehran nor Washington has shifted position materially, leaving owners reluctant to resume normal trading patterns," the monitor said, per PA Media.
