Xcel Energy recorded higher profit and lower sales in the second quarter, as revenue from both its electric and natural gas segments fell.
The utilities provider on Thursday posted a profit of $586 million, or 93 cents a share, compared with $444 million, or 75 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts expected 79 cents a share, according to FactSet.
Revenue fell 5% to $3.12 billion. Analysts surveyed by FactSet forecast revenue of $3.54 billion.
Sales from Xcel's electric business were down 5% to $2.74 billion, while natural gas revenue declined 8% to $365 million.
For the full year, Xcel maintained its guidance for ongoing earnings per share of $4.04 to $4.16.
