GSK is scheduled to report results for the second quarter on Tuesday. Here is what you need to know.
TURNOVER FORECAST: Analysts expect the U.K. drugmaker to generate turnover of 8.24 billion pounds ($10.98 billion) for the second quarter, according to consensus estimates provided by the company. For the same period last year, GSK posted turnover of 7.99 billion pounds.
CORE PROFIT FORECAST: GSK is expected to report a core operating profit of 2.675 billion pounds for the second quarter, according to the same consensus. This compares with 2.63 billion pounds for last year's second quarter.
Shares in GSK fell 4% during the second quarter, but the stock gained 5.2% since the beginning of the year through Friday's close.
WHAT TO WATCH
--STRATEGY UPDATE: Alongside second-quarter results, GSK is due to hold an event with investors, called "Accelerate Growth," during which Chief Executive Luke Miels is expected to provide an update on his strategy for the company. The key question for GSK investors will be whether Miels can provide a credible path to achieving its sales target of more than 40 billion pounds by 2031, analysts at UBS wrote in a note to clients. Analysts at Bank of America said they would look out for updates on the commercial strategy for recently launched drugs such as Blenrep and Exdensur, and for those that are expected to get approval soon like hepatitis B treatment bepirovirsen. GSK's plans for its oncology and HIV franchises will be in focus as well, the Bank of America analysts added.
--GUIDANCE: GSK's 2031 sales target seems unlikely to change given that it was reiterated when the company disclosed its $10.6 billion acquisition of Nuvalent, but there is still a gap between that goal and consensus estimates, the UBS analysts said. For this year, GSK expects turnover to increase by 3% to 5%, and both core operating profit and core earnings per share to increase by 7% to 9% when excluding currency movements.
