South Korea, Brazil Agree to Accelerate Mercosur Trade Deal Talks

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva agreed on Monday to accelerate negotiations for a long-delayed free trade agreement between South Korea and the Mercosur bloc.

During their summit in Brasília, the two leaders declared 2026 as the inaugural year of a new Korea-Brazil Strategic Partnership, establishing a high-level committee to deepen cooperation in trade, defense, aerospace, and critical minerals, according to a transcript of the summit shared on YouTube by Yonhap News.
