Dover Shares Dive on Soft 2Q Sales

Shares of Dover dropped after the company reported second-quarter sales that came in slightly below analyst targets.

The stock was down 7.7% at $198.01 in premarket trading. As of Wednesday's close, shares had gained almost 10% year-to-date.

The global manufacturer said before the opening bell that revenue jumped 7% to $2.19 billion in the second quarter. That was shy of analyst estimates of $2.21 billion, according to FactSet.

Management said bookings outpaced shipments during the quarter as order rate momentum continues to pick up.

Earnings for the quarter came in at $2.30 a share, compared with $2.02 a share in the same quarter a year earlier.

Stripping out one-time items, adjusted earnings were $2.74 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet had been expecting $2.72 a share.
