Wells Fargo has started to see results in its Wall Street business ramp-up, after it was freed from a regulatory punishment that restricted its growth around a year ago.

-- Investment banking fees hit $948 million in the second quarter, which the bank said was highest on record.

-- CEO Charlie Scharf said the bank was finally deploying capital and taking prudent risks after "years of not being on a level playing field with our competitors because we couldn't grow our balance sheet."
