IHeartMedia (IHRT) agreed to a consent decree with the Federal Communications Commission to settle an investigation into its compliance with federal payola rules, the agency said Thursday.

Under the agreement, iHeartMedia will implement enhanced reporting and compliance measures, including designating an internal compliance officer, producing regular reports to the FCC, and establishing a whistleblower hotline.

The FCC said the measures are intended to help prevent artists from being pressured to perform at station-hosted events in exchange for favorable airplay.
