Imugene (ASX:IMU) said additional patient data from the concurrent Bruton's tyrosine-protein inhibitor (BTKi) group of its azer-cel therapy candidate phase 1b study showed a complete response, according to a Friday Australian bourse filing.

Azer-cel is an off-the-shelf allogeneic CAR T cell therapy targeting the CD19 protein to treat blood cancers.

The mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) patient was the first one treated in the study and had previously failed BTKi therapy. The patient achieved a complete response at the day 28 assessment.

To date, four patients have been dosed in the concurrent BTKi group, and two of these patients are evaluable, both achieving a complete response.

Its shares surged 26% in recent trading on Wednesday.
