Island Pharmaceuticals Says Singapore Granted Patent for Antiviral Therapy; Shares Jump 4%

Island Pharmaceuticals (ASX:ILA) said Singapore's Intellectual Property Office granted a patent covering the use of its ISLA-101 drug candidate for the treatment of flavivirus and Chikungunya virus infections, according to a Thursday filing with the Australian bourse.
Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral disease similar to dengue, which is also covered in the patent.
The patent is owned by Monash University and protects the use of ISLA-101 as a standalone antiviral therapy until April 16, 2034, per the filing.
"Singapore is an important market within the Asia-Pacific region, where dengue and other mosquito-borne viral diseases remain endemic," the company said.
The company's shares jumped 4% in recent Thursday trade.
