Microsoft (MSFT), as part of a consortium including Singapore TelecommunicationS and Tata Communications, is building a high-speed submarine cable connecting India, Singapore, and Malaysia, according to media reports on Thursday.
The undersea I-2SEA cable will help technology firms competing to expand infrastructure in India to support artificial intelligence, cloud and hyperscale workloads, Reuters reported. The 3,600-km cable system will link Machilipatnam and South Chennai on India's east coast to Singapore and Malaysia through four new landing stations, reducing dependence on existing cable hubs, India's MoneyControl reported.
Other partners in the consortium are Singapore's ASEAN Cableship, Japan's NEC, and a startup, Lightstorm, according to Reuters. On Tuesday, Tata Communications announced strategic investments in subsea cable infrastructure to strengthen its connectivity solutions between the emerging AI hubs of Mumbai and Chennai in India and Singapore.
Singapore Telecommunications, Tata Communications, Microsoft, and NEC did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
