Motorcar Parts of America said it has purchased several brake brands from First Brands Group, expanding its portfolio of non-discretionary aftermarket parts.

The acquisition includes intellectual and digital property associated with brands including Centric Parts, Posi Quiet, StopTech, C-TEK and GCX, the company said Tuesday.

The transaction was managed through a court-supervised sales process, as First Brands Group through its chapter 11 bankruptcy process.

Motorcar Parts said the deal was structured without assuming operational liabilities and that certain assets were transferred free-and-clear from all liens, claims and encumbrances. It didn't disclose the exact terms of the sale.

"This purchase complements the company's expansion of brake-related product coverage and commitment to the braking category, particularly within the professional installer and performance segments," Chief Executive Selwyn Joffe said.

Centric Parts' brake business had estimated gross sales of up to $400 million at the supplier level, Motorcar Parts said, citing industry reports.
