Daikin (TYO:6367) will set up a wholly owned India R&D unit, Daikin Research and Development India Private, with 13.6 billion yen capital to serve as a Global South development hub, according to a Tokyo bourse filing on Friday.

The new entity, set to begin operations in July 2026, will oversee the construction of an R&D center in Haryana, scheduled for completion by June 2028, focusing on large-scale HVAC systems for data centers, factories, and commercial facilities.

The move aims to leverage India's deep engineering and IT talent pool to strengthen product development capabilities tailored to local market needs and regulations across Asia, Oceania, and Africa.
