Daktronics Shares Gain After Swinging to 4Q Profit, Posting Higher Sales

Shares of Daktronics rose after the company swung to a profit and logged higher sales in its fiscal fourth quarter.

The stock climbed 6.4%, to $21.40, in premarket trading Wednesday. Through Tuesday's close, shares are up roughly 32% over the past year.

The company, which designs and manufactures video displays and control systems, before the bell posted net income of $8.4 million, or 17 cents a share, for its three months ended May 2. That compares with a loss of $9.4 million, or 19 cents a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out one-time items, earnings came in at 27 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet expected adjusted earnings of 20 cents a share.

Net sales increased 21% to $208.6 million, ahead of Wall Street models for $205.3 million.

Chief Executive Ramesh Jayaraman said sales growth accelerated, reflecting efficient backlog conversion, steady customer demand and effective sales practices.

Daktronics additionally improved its profitability, driven by stronger operational efficiency, improved supply chain execution, disciplined inventory and working-capital management, and pricing actions, he added.
