Metcash Appears to Signal FY27 Earnings Hopes Should Come Down -- Market Talk

2328 GMT - Metcash's FY26 earnings were in line with prior guidance, but Macquarie thinks it could miss consensus hopes for FY27. That reflects Metcash's signaling on depreciation and amortization, as well as net interest expense. Metcash indicated D&A would increase "low double digits" in FY27. That suggests an outcome of A$285 million, which is above consensus forecasts for A$264 million, Macquarie says. Guidance for a net interest expense of A$130 million-A$135 million was also a touch above expectations. "Nonetheless, FY26 underlying Ebitda of A$774 million was marginally ahead of consensus, indicative of stronger underlying performance," says Macquarie. "Further, first seven weeks trading (2% growth versus prior corresponding period) is evidence of resilience, with Hardware particularly strong (tracking at 6% growth)."
