STMicroelectronics (STM) said Monday it released a new 3-dimensional light detection and ranging module designed for artificial intelligence applications on small computing devices.
The device has a 2.3K zone resolution, on-chip data processing, and a spatial sensing range spanning from 5 centimeters to 9 meters, the company said.
The hardware system uses dual-scan flood illumination instead of standard dot scanning to capture infrared and depth images with fewer undetected areas, it said.
STM also said that LiDAR module will enter mass production and become available for global customer shipments starting in early July.
Shares of the company were up 1% in Monday premarket activity.
