Shares of Unusual Machines jumped sharply Thursday after The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration was in negotiations to fund multiple private-sector drone companies.
Unusual Machines was one of the companies the Pentagon identified for potential funding, the Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The drone-parts supplier counts Donald Trump Jr. as an advisory board member.
Neither the Defense Department nor Unusual Machines immediately responded to Barron's requests for comment.
Unusual Machines stock surged 29% in premarket trading, having already soared 279% over the last 12 months.
The Iran war has highlighted the rise of drone warfare and piqued investors' interest in both drone and anti-drone technology. Earlier in the conflict, Iran deployed thousands of Shahed drones built at a fraction of the cost of U.S. equivalents.
Other drone stocks also were on the rise Thursday. Palantir-backed drone maker Ondas climbed 8.3%, Red Cat Holdings spiked 18%, and AeroVironment was up 9.8%.
