Shares of MediWound fell after the biopharmaceutical company's loss widened in the first quarter and regional conflict caused a decline in revenue.

The stock slid 7.2%, to $15.49, midday Wednesday, and is down 16% year to date.

The Israel company, which focuses on tissue repair, earlier Wednesday posted a first-quarter loss of $3 million, or 23 cents a share, compared with a loss of $726,000, or 7 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected a loss of 65 cents a share.

Revenue fell to $1.5 million from $4 million a year earlier. Analysts expected $3.4 million. The decrease was primarily driven by the timing of Barda-related revenues and postponed shipments related to regional conflict, the company said.

The company's research-and-development expenses rose to $5.2 million from $2.9 million a year earlier, primarily due to higher costs from the EscharEx Value Phase 3 trial.

The company reaffirmed its full-year revenue guidance of $24 million to $26 million. Analysts expect full-year revenue of $24.8 million.
