Novo Nordisk A/S (NVO) said Wednesday that it is pausing further manufacturing development at its Odense, Denmark site, citing shifts in global demand and long-term patient needs.

The company will continue construction at the facility, but it will now be used for warehouse and storage purposes instead of manufacturing, a Novo Nordisk spokesperson told MT Newswires in a written statement.

The move will lead to job cuts, with more than half of the site's 150 employees expected to be impacted, Novo Nordisk said. The company added that the decision reflects "responsible capacity planning" in the current market environment.

The company said that the Odense site remains a potential option for future manufacturing as demand evolves.
