Zhaojin Mining Says Three Killed in Incident at Unit's Under-Construction Mine; Shares Down 12%

Zhaojin Mining Industry (HKG:1818) said an incident at a mine under infrastructure construction operated by wholly owned unit Zhaoyuan Jintingling Mining Industry resulted in three deaths and two injuries, according to a Thursday Hong Kong bourse filing.

The incident occurred during slag removal on Monday. The injured are in stable condition, the company said.

Following the incident, the group's operating production mines in the Zhaoyuan region have been suspended for inspection at the request of local emergency management authorities.

Zhaojin Mining said follow-up handling and an investigation are underway, and the company is assessing the impact of the incident on the group's overall operations.

Shares of the mining firm were down nearly 12% in Thursday's midday trade.
