0201 GMT - The Chinese yuan strengthens against the dollar in onshore and offshore markets. Earlier Thursday, the PBOC set the yuan's fixing against the dollar at 6.8487, the highest level since March 2023, CFETS data show. Also, Asian currencies strengthen versus the greenback as signs continue to point to limited appetite for further escalation in the Middle East conflict, MUFG Bank's Lloyd Chan says in a research report. "Further de-escalation in the Middle East, such as Iran accepting the U.S. proposed deal and a gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, could continue to support gains in Asia FX," the senior currency analyst adds. The dollar is 0.1% lower at 6.8037 yuan in the onshore market after touching 6.8032 yuan, the lowest intraday level since February 2023, LSEG data show. (ronnie.harui@wsj.com)
