Nymex Overview: Energy Prices Mixed on Renewed Hope for Iran-U.S. Negotiations -- OPIS

Crude-oil and refined product futures prices were mixed but remained on track to end the week with sizable gains.

The declines Friday come as news reports indicate Iranian negotiators are travelling to Pakistan for talks with mediators, raising hopes that stalled efforts for a deal between the U.S. and Iran could get back on track.

The Nymex West Texas Intermediate June crude contract was down 28cts to $95.57/bbl while July prices were trading 29cts lower at $90.53/bbl. WTI prices are still about $13/bbl higher than last Friday's settlement.

Brent crude prices were mixed, with the June contract rising by 97cts to $106.04/bbl while July prices were moving 41cts lower to $99.76/bbl. The front-month contract is up nearly $16 for the week.

May ULSD futures were falling by 1.16cts to $3.9766/gal, about 58cts higher than last week's settlement. June prices were up 0.5ct to $3.8727/gal.

RBOB futures were moving lower. The front-month contract was down 0.87ct to $3.4534/gal and June prices sinking by 0.43ct to $3.3299/gal. The May contract is currently more than 45cts higher than last week.

While diesel and gasoline prices were falling in most spot markets OPIS monitors around the country, gasoline prices were rising in Chicago and Group 3. The increases come on reports of multiple refiners seen as bidders in the market as maintenance activities impact refinery operations.
