Rogers Communications' Lower Capex Outlook Seen as Well-Timed Amid Regulatory, Sector Uncertainty -- Market Talk

0938 ET - Rogers Communications cut its capex guidance at a time when the sector faces challenged growth and an adverse regulatory environment. Scotiabank's Maher Yaghi says curtailing wireless investments is necessary to "to protect the downside from seeing those investments socialized" by Canadian regulators. He says that the cut to the capex outlook and ensuing positive impact on free cash flow generation has positive implications on valuations "given the high correlation between the distribution ratio of telco stocks and the dividend yield in the sector."
