Shares of Chemed rose after the company lifted its full-year guidance following revenue growth in the company's hospice business.

Shares were up 10% to $421.25 in after-hours trading Thursday. The stock closed up 2.6% at $382.97, down 10% this year.

The company, which owns a hospice care provider and a plumbing and drain cleaning business, said it now expects full-year adjusted earnings between $24.00 and $24.75 a share, up from a previous range of $23.25 to $24.25 a share.

Analysts polled by FactSet are expecting $23.88 a share.

The outlook lift was driven by the improved performance of the company's hospice business, Vitas, as well as Chemed's share repurchases in the first quarter, the company said.

Chemed on Thursday reported a profit of $66.3 million, or $4.84 a share, down from its profit of $71.8 million, or $4.86 a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-time items, the company logged adjusted earnings of $5.65 a share. Analysts were expecting $5.30 a share.

Sales and service revenues rose to $657.5 million from $646.9 million a year prior. Analysts were anticipating $649.8 million.

Vitas revenue rose 3.1% to $420 million. Roto-Rooter, the company's plumbing and drain-cleaning business, posted revenue of $237.5 million, down 0.9% year over year.
