Shares of Allogene Therapeutics rose after the company said interim data from a midstage trial showed potentially meaningful cancer clearance for certain lymphoma patients.

The stock jumped 58%, to $4.30, in premarket trading Monday. Through Friday's close, shares were up 88% over the prior year.

The biotechnology company said before the bell that seven out of 12 patients treated with cemacabtagene ansegedleucel achieved minimal residual disease, or MRD, negativity, compared with two out of 12 in the Phase 2 study's observation arm. That represents a 41.6% absolute difference in MRD clearance between the two arms, above a 25%-to-30% benchmark that could mean clinical relevance at study completion, the company said.

Allogene also said levels of circulating tumor DNA--or DNA found in the bloodstream that comes from cancerous cells and tumors--dropped sharply in treated patients and rose in the control group, providing support for the therapy's potential as a novel strategy for treating high-risk patients at the end of first-line treatment.

The company added that the therapy was well tolerated, with no cases of treatment-related hospitalizations.

The data came from an early look at 24 patients, and the study's main goal of event-free survival remains ongoing, with key readouts not expected until 2027 and 2028.
